Frizzies..

You ever wish that you could have that smoothe look at the roots that traditionals have after a reti? I do. One of my BFFs has traditional locs and I swear everytime she has a reti I find myself becoming green with envy. It's so smoothe looking, and I know it has a lot to do with the method (I suppose). I just wish there was a way to achieve that same look. Obviously since my hair is being knitted (so to speak) it won't have the same look as palm-rolling. I mean, don't get me wrong, I can def tell the difference after a reti. My scalp is visble again and so forth. Still, I wish I could really tame these fly away hairs. It would be nice to be able to apply something to the loc. Just my rant.

  1. I was just thinking the same thing while I was in Trinidad looking at all the women with 'smooth' looking traditional locs! Hopefully you will be locked soon and your hair will look even more divine then it does already!!

  2. (Am I just plain wrong for loving your rants? They always hit home somehow *grin*)

Seriously though, I know what you mean by that smooth look. Is it the products they use when they palm roll their hair? Or is it just the way the hair (follicles) lay flat and smooth when 'retwisted/rolled'?

I've always wondered what would happen/what look would be achieved if someone with SLs or microlocks changed from interlocking to palm rolling - but can you imagine rolling all those tiny locks? Lol. And who would be brave enough to experiment?

I think your hair is looking fantastic, if you do find something to 'tame the frizzies' without attracting lint and dust etc - do share!

  3. Guys, I am going to try to tame the frizzies! I am going to put some flat twist in my hair, and I am also going to use some type of gel product. I know what you all must be thinking…LOL….and yes you are correct, I have lost my mind!

I was told that I could try Loc-A-Fella or even Let’s Jam… I mean, at this point, it’s all about finding new things that work, and it’s my hair, I paid for it, so it’s time to explore with it. I am opting for Let’s JAM because it’s not like regular gel and every now and then I would put it on my edges with no problems. I have never used Loc-A-Fella.

I am wondering if I should do this while my hair is wet. I am only going to do one twist to test, and if it doesn’t work out, or if it seems like a lot of build up, I will bring out the trusty V05. Wish me luck guys… I will post pictures soon.

  4. Ooooh - I'm excited - and definitely wish you the best (look at me encouraging you to be a renegade! LOL)

I think flat twisting should work - given my experience at the hair salon: that was the first time I saw my short locs at the front lie down!

I'd also say - do it while your hair is damp.. but let us know what worked for you!

Ps - I love that mentality: "it's my hair and I paid for it... " Amen!

  5. I have that same problem,my locks are extra fuzzy and my hair IS palm rolled. I don't think it has to do with the technique but more of the type of hair texture we have.

  6. I agree with David. I just gonna mention it has to do more with texture. I have frizzies too and thinking having my locs groomed after the 2nd year. Anxious to know how your experiment with Let's Jam turn out.
